Celebrations 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Grade!!!
Congratulations to 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade for their amazing STAR Reading Results!! Check out the percentage of students who were in Urgent Intervention in the Fall to now!!!! There was a 7% decrease in 2nd grade, 5% decrease in 3rd grade, and 4% decrease in 4th grade.

(The numbers stand for the grade level, the "R" stands for Reading and the "F/W" stands for Fall and Winter screening.)

In addition to the three grades who had a decrease in their Urgent Intervention Numbers, 3rd and 4th grade had significant increases in the percentage of students scoring At or Above on STAR Reading. There was a 9% increase in both 3rd and 4th grade!!

You guys are really moving your students and should be proud of the progress you are making!!!

No Place for Hate
Please tune into the news this week to hear about our No Place for Hate promise. Each day, the peer leaders will explain one part of the promise. On Friday, a representative will bring a copy of the promise for your class to sign. Please hang this somewhere inside or right outside of your classroom.

The No Place for Hate® Promise (Elementary School)
·       I promise to do my best to treat everyone fairly.
·       I promise to do my best to be kind to everyone —even if they are not like me.
·       If I see someone being hurt or bullied, I will tell a teacher.
·       Everyone should be able to feel safe and happy in school.
·       I want our school to be No Place for Hate®.

What I've been thinking about...

What does it mean to "think critically?"

In the article below, the author suggests that the term "critical thinkers" is misused and abused. We have to agree on what critical thinking means and looks like in a classroom in order to use it! The author states that....

“Critical thinking is that mode of thinking — about any subject, content, or problem — in which the thinker improves the quality of his or her thinking by skillfully analyzing, assessing, and reconstructing it. Critical thinking is self-directed, self-disciplined, self-monitored, and self-corrective thinking."

Do we know what it means to think critically and are we asking our students to do it in the classroom?

Starting this week, be on the lookout for the Paws-Up Princess! She will be coming around to replenish Paws Tickets and give teachers and staff a little treat. The PBIS committee would like to thank you for all you do. Keep giving out those tickets for Paws-Up behavior!

The PBIS focus for the month of February will be dismissal. Teachers, please walk your students all the way to the buses to encourage Paws-Up Best Practices. Take time to discuss the expectations for dismissal.
