Instructional Rounds
We are scheduled to have our last round of Instructional Rounds on May 3rd. The Central Learning Community team will be here again to observe in classrooms and give feedback towards Rigor and Relevance.
We know there are field trips, events, STAR testing, etc... going on so please do not change anything that you are doing. We will welcome them into our school like always and show them the amazing things happening here at High Point!

Math Materials Return

Our last day school-wide for RTI is April 28.  Kerstin will be coming around to collect Do the Math kits the first week in May.
Please have your kits packed up and inventoried  by May 3.  Kerstin will stop by May 4 & 5 to pick up kits.  If you need inventory forms, please email Kerstin and she will get them to you.  She will collect ENI kits the last week of school.

*If you want to hold on to your DtM kit so you can finish the last few lessons, that is fine!  Please let Kerstin know you want to keep it an extra week or two.*

Finally, if you are leaving High Point to start a new adventure, you will need to check in any Title I math resources you have been using in your classroom.  Kerstin will send a separate email letting you know when you can check in Title I math materials; check-in will take place the week of May 23.  If you will be with us next year, you can hold onto any Title I materials you have been using and store them in your classrooms.

Device Dilemma
Please remember to have discussed the following prior to tomorrow's faculty meeting:

Dilemma: How do we redesign our school and classrooms in order to support our personalized learning vision?
(Vision: All students are self-motivated, connected and active participants in their learning and the world around them.)

Current Devices (not including staff devices):
254 desktop computers
50 laptop computers
165 student ipads

Projected Devices by Mid-Year (not including staff devices but including current devices):
254 desktop computers
331 laptop computers
165 student ipads

Reimagining Current Spaces for Digital Learning:
Classrooms
Media Center
Computer Lab
Portables

Task # 1: For 2016-2017, create a proposal for redistributing current devices and reimagining current learning spaces.

Questions to ponder:
Do we have to have a computer lab?
How might the media center look?
How might your classrooms look?
Does everyone need the same amount of devices?
Are certain devices more appropriate for different grade levels?

Task # 2: Describe how your current proposal would change once we receive our additional devices.

'Egg'cellent Life Cycles
Second grade is studying life cycles of amphibians, insects, birds, and mammals.  Come check out our fantastic live animals in the hallway between the library and the computer lab.  We have mealworms, caterpillars, and the largest tadpole you have ever seen!  Coming soon will be chicken eggs and ladybugs.  There are many other pieces on display – deer antlers, snakeskin, blowfish, and a bird’s nest – just to name a few!!  Wednesday is our no testing day so the hallway should be clear!

SST Meetings during Ga Milestone Testing

Starting Monday April 11th-Tuesday April 26th, all SST meetings will be held in the conference room.  If you are unable to attend an SST meeting , please email Radford information about that student.

Attendance and Tardy Initiative

High Point Elementary will be implementing a school-wide attendance initiative. The program is a school wide initiative to promote students on-time arrival, daily attendance and readiness to learn. The goal is to decrease the tardy rate and unexcused absences.

Absenteeism and tardiness can have a direct effect on a child’s school performance. As you know, students that are absent from school miss important instruction and academic work.

We will be raffling off a kindle fire (1 per grade level) for all students without any UNEXCUSED ABSENCES or TARDIES

We will also have a grade level party for the grade with the best Attendance Record

The initiative for both events will start April 11th and will end May 19th.

Questions or concerns, please see Vaneisa Hutchins.

**********************************************************
Progress Monitoring Cut-off

Progress monitoring for all T2 and T3 students will end for the year when the spring STAR Screening begins (April 28). This will serve as the last data point needed for the year. You may choose to continue collecting data, but all STAR Screening tools will not be available for the rest of the year once we begin screening on April 28. If you have questions, please reach out to Brian.

 **********************************************************
Fountas and Pinnell
Fountas and Pinnell data will be due at your May collegial planning day. Please plan accordingly.

PBIS
Thank you to everyone who filled out a Buddy Brag for the month of March!!!! New buddy brags will be in your box this week!!! Keep up the good work recognizing your colleagues!!!

**********************************************************
What I've been thinking about...

The 10 stages of monitoring a standardized test that every teacher goes through...... Hope it gives you a good laugh.

******VISUALS OF BEST PRACTICE******

In 1st grade, students are working on their sight words with their sight word buddies. The teachers have identified students in their classes that have already exceeded the grade level sight word goal. These students are working with a buddy every morning with those that have not met their goal or need some extra practice since most of them don’t have the parental support at home.

*Peer tutoring at its finest ! Way to go 1st grade!*
