Georgia School Personnel Survey
Below is the link to the Georgia Personnel Survey. This survey is required by every staff member.
As stated in the faculty meeting, please take your time filling out this survey and if there should be a reason for selecting a negative response, please request a time to talk about it with me. I want to be able to address each and every concern to make our school the best it can be!!!
********************************
The Georgia School Personnel Survey (GSPS) is modeled after the student survey and includes 31 questions. The GSPS is for all certified and classified staff members who work at least 50 percent of the day in the school. At least 75% of certified and classified staff members must participate in the survey to be eligible for the School Climate Star Rating. Most teachers should be able to participate in the GSPS using their classroom computer. The survey is also accessible using a tablet or smartphone. Survey responses are anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis. Results from the Georgia School Personnel Survey will not be available to the public and will not be posted online

There is a SPANISH version. They can select the Spanish if needed.

At least 75% of students at each grade level (3-12) must participate in the GSHS 2.0 to be eligible for the School Climate Star Rating. Survey responses are anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis. The GSHS 2.0 is also available in Spanish. Science Endorsement

The  STEM department is excited to announce that they received a Mathematics Science Partnership grant from the Georgia Department of Education.  FCS has partnered with Georgia Tech and Georgia State to offer a K-5 science endorsement to elementary teachers and focus on the science & engineering practices for middle school teachers.  The goal of the grant is to focus on  building capacity to implement the new Georgia Standards of Excellence in Science.

As outlined in the grant:
  • First priority will be given to teachers in Title I Schools
  • The second priority will be given to teachers in schools seeking STEM certification
The grant is a two year commitment for teachers and the county is looking for teachers that are highly committed to attending all aspects of the program.
If you would like more information regarding this grant, compensation, and dates of the program please contact Ms. Pitchford.

There will be 3 opportunities for teachers to attend information sessions to find out more about the programs.  Two meetings are face to face and one will be held via Skype.

What I've been thinking about...

Below is a very quick article of DOS and DON'TS of teaching English Language Learners. I know most of you know these suggestions but it's a great reminder; especially about encouraging the development of students' native language.
While we encourage students to speak English, they should never be banned from speaking in their home language.
It's a quick and great read!!!!

******VISUALS OF BEST PRACTICE*****

Students in Ms. Nobles's class noticed that the water bottle for their class pet guinea pig had developed mold inside it.  Since they had recently studied harmful bacteria and microorganisms, they were alarmed. When attempts to clean it were unsuccessful, Ms. Nobles suggested that they solve the problem in another way!  Excellent real world problem solving and use of critical thinking skills were needed to tackle this student led-inquiry! True student engagement in a real world problem because it mattered to them!

November 8th - Teacher Workday
This is just a friendly reminder that we will be disbursing devices (desktops, laptops, and ipads) on the 9th.

Each classroom should have an area where the desktops or the laptop organizers will go. Please label the area so that we know where you want the devices and we will not have to interrupt your instructional time.  If you would like your laptops on a table permanently then please put in a custodial request for a table (if needed).

Please also use this day to declutter your rooms. We know that storage space is a challenge however, we want to make sure all classrooms:

1. make students feel welcome and safe
2. allow students to take ownership of their learning
3. enhance students' learning experiences

We are working with the county to put in your furniture requests so thank you for filling out the link that was sent out!!

PBIS This Week!
It is that time of year when we all have so much to do. Remember to speak to students in a polite manner.
If you are frustrated, instead of yelling, “Line up quietly!” say calmly, “We can line up when you are quiet. If we are late for lunch, I’m sorry.”  Many times standing at the door quietly pretending to look at your watch works well too. Here is a list of other positive statements:

**********************************************************
Attendance
·    Below is the chart displaying student absences from September 21st til November 4th. Please notice that the majority of grade levels had an increase in student absences from last month. Please try to make sure you are calling parents and following up with students who are absent. We want to encourage students as much as possible to attend school.

Congratulations to Kindergarten and 2nd grade for having less student absences this past  month.

What I've been thinking about...

Below is a quick article about our tendency to give students the answers and shut down their ability to inquire, wonder, problem solve.
If we do this, how can we make sure to stop?

******VISUALS OF BEST PRACTICE*******

Ms. Todd, in 1st grade, uses constructive feedback with her students in writing. Students are given very specific things that they did well and what they might try next time in their writing. Research says that providing students with meaningful feedback can greatly enhance learning and improve student achievement.
