Georgia School Personnel Survey
Below is the link to the Georgia Personnel Survey. This survey is required by every staff member.
As stated in the faculty meeting, please take your time filling out this survey and if there should be a reason for selecting a negative response, please request a time to talk about it with me. I want to be able to address each and every concern to make our school the best it can be!!!
********************************
The Georgia School Personnel Survey (GSPS) is modeled after the student survey and includes 31 questions. The GSPS is for all certified and classified staff members who work at least 50 percent of the day in the school. At least 75% of certified and classified staff members must participate in the survey to be eligible for the School Climate Star Rating. Most teachers should be able to participate in the GSPS using their classroom computer. The survey is also accessible using a tablet or smartphone. Survey responses are anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis. Results from the Georgia School Personnel Survey will not be available to the public and will not be posted online

3-5 grade teachers:
Below is the link to the Georgia Student Survey. This survey is required by students in grades 3-5.
As stated in the faculty meeting, please monitor your students who are taking this survey and explain the questions if they are uncertain what they mean. We want our students to be honest but also have a clear understanding of how important this survey is to our school.
There is a SPANISH version. They can select the Spanish if needed.

At least 75% of students at each grade level (3-12) must participate in the GSHS 2.0 to be eligible for the School Climate Star Rating. Survey responses are anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis. The GSHS 2.0 is also available in Spanish. Science Endorsement

The  STEM department is excited to announce that they received a Mathematics Science Partnership grant from the Georgia Department of Education.  FCS has partnered with Georgia Tech and Georgia State to offer a K-5 science endorsement to elementary teachers and focus on the science & engineering practices for middle school teachers.  The goal of the grant is to focus on  building capacity to implement the new Georgia Standards of Excellence in Science.

As outlined in the grant:
  • First priority will be given to teachers in Title I Schools
  • The second priority will be given to teachers in schools seeking STEM certification
The grant is a two year commitment for teachers and the county is looking for teachers that are highly committed to attending all aspects of the program.
If you would like more information regarding this grant, compensation, and dates of the program please contact Ms. Pitchford.

There will be 3 opportunities for teachers to attend information sessions to find out more about the programs.  Two meetings are face to face and one will be held via Skype.

What I've been thinking about...

Below is a very quick article of DOS and DON'TS of teaching English Language Learners. I know most of you know these suggestions but it's a great reminder; especially about encouraging the development of students' native language.
While we encourage students to speak English, they should never be banned from speaking in their home language.
It's a quick and great read!!!!

******VISUALS OF BEST PRACTICE*****

Students in Ms. Nobles's class noticed that the water bottle for their class pet guinea pig had developed mold inside it.  Since they had recently studied harmful bacteria and microorganisms, they were alarmed. When attempts to clean it were unsuccessful, Ms. Nobles suggested that they solve the problem in another way!  Excellent real world problem solving and use of critical thinking skills were needed to tackle this student led-inquiry! True student engagement in a real world problem because it mattered to them!
