ESOL Changes
We were notified late last week that we are losing a .5 ESOL teacher. Ms. Turuesdale will be now splitting her time between High Point and Dunwoody Springs. We are working to make sure there are minimal changes and appreciate everyone's flexibility as we work out the kinks to the new schedule. Ms. Truesdale will be here every morning until about 10:00 am. If you have any questions about the changes, please see Ms. Eigel.

Supervision of Students
Staff, please remember that students need to be supervised AT ALL TIMES. Per the social worker's mandated reporter training, students should not be in the classroom without an adult, should not be in the hallways without an adult, or be in the computer lab without an adult. Students should also be constantly monitored during recess and while walking outside. If a child gets injured, then the adult could be charged with "Lack of Supervision" and reported to DFACS.
If you have any questions, please contact Vaneisa Hutchins.

Digital Citizenship Updates
Our students are becoming great Digital Citizens with our Nearpod lessons!
Teacher PD
All certified teachers at High Point- As part of our school’s Digital Citizenship Plan, teachers are required to participate in one Digital Learning webinar. You may watch this video any time before October 30th, then sign off on this form when completed.
It is approx. 55 minutes long, and you may start it, pause it, and come back to it later until you finish.
You Gave a Formative Assessment, Now What?
This webinar contains excellent suggestions for digital integration and includes Seesaw as a point of discussion, which reinforces our Seesaw implementation!
Family Tip Sheets
We are required to send home one Digital Citizenship Family Tip Sheet to all students. These will be put in your mailbox- please send them home in weekly folders. They will be printed in both English and Spanish.

iRead/iReady v/s Imagine
Imagine Learning will be available for all students who scored Levels 1-3 on ACCESS. If the students scored a level 4-5 on ACCESS, they will use iRead (K-3) or iReady (grades 4-5). This is the plan which is dependent on grant funding. We will notify you of any changes. Imagine Learning will NOT be done during the ESOL segment (45 minutes).
Each child should go on iRead, iReady, OR Imagine Learning 3x a week for 20 minutes each session. Every child should have a specific plan to make sure this is happening each week. Area Superintendents will be pulling the usage reports for all programs.
Any questions, reach out to Hess.

Two ESOL Strategies from Kagan
Strategy: Rally Robin
*This is a review from the beginning of the year faculty meeting.
Students take turns responding orally. The teacher poses a problem/question to which there are multiple possible responses, and provides think time! Students take turns stating responses or solutions. You may also provide a word bank of possible answers.
Strategy: Rally Coach (Great for Math):
Partners take turns, one solving a problem while the other coaches.
1. Partner A solves the first problem.
2. Partner B watches and listens, checks, coaches if necessary, and praises.
3. Partner B solves the next problem.
4. Partner A watches and listens, checks, coaches if necessary and praises.
5. Partners repeat taking turns solving successive problems.
6. You can also do a pairs check: After solving 2 problems, pairs check their answers with another pair.

Reminders from Mr. DiBartolo
Please be sure to refrain from using cell phones on the playgrounds. Also, we will be working on getting new benches installed. Please do not bring chairs from the classroom to the field area.
Computer Lab is closed from August 28th-September 15th for Fastbridge Screening.
We are beginning to keep track of substitute teachers who may not be following High Point’s teaching expectations. Please let Mr. DiBartolo know if there were any issues with a substitute in your room.
Office referrals need to be completed on the white form and brought with students when they are sent to the office. Please take a few forms to keep in your classroom in the event of an emergency.

From Your KSU Coach
Thank you for your enthusiasm this week! It has been great getting to know you, your grade level teams and hearing about your technology interests and goals. My calendar is getting booked with co-teaching, co-planning and modeling opportunities! I wanted to share that I've made updates to my website - https://www.smore.com/0j3th.
Once a month I plan to post new tools for you to check out! I've also included these updates in a newsletter that is posted around the school. Continue to reach out as needed and schedule sessions with me!
Don't forget to check out the High Point Flip Grid https://flipgrid.com/335e55 (code - 335e55)! Encourage your students and teammates to reflect on their experiences observing the Solar Eclipse using their listening and speaking skills.
Have a great week! - Hannah Rome

Continuous Learning and Reflection
Below is a fabulous article about giving feedback to students. The article provides teachers with different ways for students to take ownership of their learning as well as help parents be more engaged in their child's learning as well!

RTI/SST Reminders
Please remember that all Tier 3 students must be seen 4 days this week and have one data point collected. Brian will supply the progress monitoring tool to be used during the FastBridge screening window. Once the window closes, all reading, math, and behavior data will be collected using FastBridge assessments.
POP UP PD for the progress monitoring tools in FastBridge will be scheduled very soon. Each progress monitoring tool has a self-guided tutorial embedded in the website. You can login to FastBridge via the launch pad and begin your training early. After logging in, you will select the Training and Resources tab, use the drop-down menus on the left to locate the assessment, and work your way through the 9 lessons to learn more. You can reference the grade-level RTI spreadsheets for the name of the assessment that you will administer.
For the 2017—2018 school year, all Tier 3 interventions, including speech (articulation) and language will be delivered by classroom teachers, not SLPs. Our fabulous SLP team will provide the speech interventions, and Brian will provide the language interventions.
If you have any RTI or SST questions, please contact Brian Madej.

******VISUALS OF BEST PRACTICE******
Mrs. Ittig's class deconstructed their IB Central Idea as a class. She wrote the central idea on the board and brainstormed as a class what each word meant, sounded like, or reminded them of. Next each group rewrote what they thought the central idea meant in their own words! See the examples of their thinking!
