Open House
Thank you to everyone for all your hard work pulling off an amazing and busy Open House!!! We had a packed school with happy parents and students. Thank you for being welcoming and getting our students ready for today!

Also, a big thank you to teachers for taking time to call your parents and students before today!!! We know it makes a huge difference and we appreciate the extra time you gave to them!

First Week of School Reminders
  • Please make sure you have taped your transportation sheet to your door by 9:00 am Monday morning so we can hand out the colored tags and place them on bookbags. We will have assistants helping you as needed.
  • If you are unsure about how a child gets home, send an assistant or come down during specials to notify the office. We can help call home!
  • Take attendance!!! Please use TAC to take attendance as well as fill out the roster given to you this morning.
  • We have to report attendance to the county on the 3rd, 6th, and 10th day. It's extremely important that you tape each attendance report to your door each morning by 8:30 am!!
  • Procedures, procedures, procedures!!! Take the time to explain every expectation from the hallway to the cafeteria this week!
  • Please remember to eat lunch with your students for the first two days and use this time to teach your students how to behave and function properly in the cafeteria!
  • No meetings will be held this week except for assistants who will meet Friday to reflect on the week and see what changes need to be made to schedules and positions.
  • Grade level chairs - please don't forget that all new students will be placed in your rooms until we can assess them and place them appropriately. We appreciate everyone being welcoming and making sure they have a place to sit and a friend to help them.

5. Clean up after themselves, both on the table and on the floor.
6. Every student is responsible for gathering all of their belongings before leaving their table area.
7. If a student needs to use the restroom, they must ask a cafeteria monitor, and use 1st grade bathrooms only.

Staff Information Sheet
If you have not filled out the Staff Information sheet, please do so by Friday. This helps us know everyone's birthday, phone number, and other important information for the school year. We have 35 responses so far and need approximately 98!!!

From Your KSU Coach
Thank you for welcoming me to High Point Elementary School! I'm ready to jump into co-planning, collaborating, modeling and co-teaching with you this year. I've tried my best to get around the building to meet and greet with you personally, and I apologize if I might have missed you. Please feel free to reach out to me for all your personalized learning needs. I'm here for you! All you have to do is email me and/or schedule a time for us to meet. I encourage you to use my 'Smore' website as a resource for coaching.
Check it out here - https://www.smore.com/0j3th!

It includes opportunities for you to arrange an appointment and to share a little bit about yourself! I'm looking forward to getting to know you more! - Hanna Rome

Continuous Learning and Reflection

Each week, I am committed to placing articles, videos, or information in the Monday Notes that I am reading and reflecting upon. If you have any questions or comments about these and would like to talk more, please email me.

To kick off the new school year, I received a video from Amanda Reich about embracing failure. It is a wonderful 15 minute video that poses the question of what we could do if we actually embraced failure rather than being afraid of it. Let's take risks. Let's learn from our failures. Let's grow together because we can't do this job alone!

Solar Eclipse
We have purchased glasses for every staff member and student in order to take advantage of the learning opportunity that the solar eclipse will provide us on August 21st. We will be sending out lessons and activities that you can do with your students next week but wanted you to know about the glasses now. Below are the guidelines from the glass company:

Make sure to have your students:
1. face the opposite direction of the sun so they are looking away from the sun
2. then securely put on the glasses so the dark lenses are covering their eyes with no light leaks (adult supervision is recommended for younger students)
3. then turnaround and look at the sun/moon

When finished looking at the eclipse (or when they want to take a break):
1. before they remove their glasses, turn away from the sun

2. then take off their glasses

********VISUALS OF BEST PRACTICE*******

You guys have rocked your classrooms!!! We are so impressed with how organized, welcoming, and inquiry-based your classrooms look. Thank you for all your hard work getting them ready for your students! They are definitely "visuals" of perfection!!
