*******************NEWS**********************
Today's plan for today:
All students will be marked as EXCUSED if they are absent today, no matter what the reason. Students can be checked out prior to 12:30 pm so please make sure you are carrying your walkie-talkie at recess.
Please take note of which students will be participating in the eclipse and which students will not. Administration will be coming around at 1:00 pm to make sure we have enough volunteers to create our 1:8 ratio outside as well as have enough volunteers in the cafeteria.
Volunteers will make their way to the classrooms around 2:00 pm in order to assist with walking the students outside. Kindergarten volunteers will be dismissed to classrooms around 2:15 pm.
At 2:15, an announcement will be made for Pre-K-5th to make their way outside to the lower field in order to get ready for the eclipse. Please do not dismiss your students until an announcement has been made.
EVERY student and staff member should have glasses and NOT look at the sun until directed. Everyone will be positioned in front of their grade level cones. **Please note that students will not be able to see anything with the glasses on so they will not be able to put on the glasses until they are in position on the field. They should NOT look at the sun/eclipse while walking.
ALL staff members will be assisting and monitoring students for safety. They should make sure that students have their glasses on when they are looking at the eclipse. There should be a 1:8 ratio for staff member to child. We will ask you at 1:00 pm if you have parents volunteering. Thank you to staff who have already notified me.
The following assignments from 2:20-2:45 pm are:
o PreK – (44) 5 staff members: all Prek teachers and assistants, Lay
o Kindergarten – (106) 13 adults: all K teachers, all K assistants, Earl, Thompson, Reeves

The eclipse will last approximately 2 minutes and 40 seconds. After the total eclipse is over, we will make our way back inside where students can reflect on the experience.
Dismissal will begin at 3:05.

SST Meetings
Scheduling has begun for the first round of SSTs, and all students served in Tier 3 must have an SST every 4-5 weeks. For each student’s first meeting please bring whatever data you may have, but please know that Brian Madej will review the minutes from last year and adjust RTI plans accordingly for the new school year. For subsequent meetings, teachers and interventionists are responsible for bringing intervention and classroom data to each meeting. SST meetings are very short (20 minutes) so the conversation must stay focused. Please makes sure that you arrive on time. You will need teammates to walk your students to specials if you are the first meeting for the grade level. When you receive an SST calendar invite for a meeting, you must choose between accept, decline, or tentative. All of the choices must include “Send the Response Now” otherwise your choice will not be recorded. If you accept, you are expected you to attend the meeting. Please feel free to mark it tentative if you cannot attend, but are required to send data/information to me before the meeting. Please see Madej for needed support and questions.

Class Ambassadors
It is time to nominate two class ambassadors for your class. Remember, for class ambassadors you want to select one boy and one girl from your class that will be a buddy for new students to your class. The ambassadors will take the new student on a short tour of the school (during a convenient time chosen by you on the new student’s first day) and be their buddy at lunch and recess. When you send the students on their tour, they will get a clip board from my office with a tour checklist/new student information sheet. At the end of the day, the ambassador will drop the checklist/information sheet in my mailbox.

Continuous Learning and Reflection
We have successfully completed the first two weeks of school! Congratulations!! We appreciate everyone for taking the time to review your procedures, expectations, and get the students to a place where they are excited about what lies ahead and eager to try new things.
We believe we have the best staff around! Thank you for remaining calm under pressure, for always looking for the best in every student, and working tirelessly to do what is right by children. When you watch this video and it asks, "How many people does it take to make a difference?", know that the answer is one. And it's you. Thanks for being "The One."

******VISUALS OF BEST PRACTICE******
Ms. May's class watched a BrainPop video about the scientific method to gain some knowledge about the process. Then completed each step in real-time, by conducting their own research. The problem was: Will milk react the same with Coca-Cola as it does with Coke Zero? The students came up with their own hypotheses. Then some volunteers came up and performed the experiment (adding milk to each). Students drew and labeled our observations as time lapsed 3 minutes, 45 minutes, and 3 days later. They were really excited to check in on Monday! They even brought up “chemical” on their own! One student asked if we drank chemicals and if we were going to learn more about “this stuff” this year!!
