Kristen Mayhall has decided to move back to Alabama to be with her family. Her last day on contract is September 28th. We are going to miss her dearly!!!

Please join me in welcoming Noorulain Syed who will be Ms. Mayhall's replacement beginning October 1st. Ms. Syed comes to us with over 5 years experience, a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and with an endorsement in Reading. She has two young children of her own and is very excited to be a part of the High Point family!!! Thank you for welcoming her!!!!

Strong 4 Life
Thank you for everyone's participation in the Strong4Life Pep Rally last Friday! It was a huge success!!!!
As mentioned in the pep rally, our healthy focus is "drinking more water" and we received one water bottle for every student!

We will have the water bottles outside of Ms. Hess's office so please stop by there on your way to recess and have each child take a water bottle!!! Since they all look alike, please make sure your students put their names on their water bottles in a Sharpie Pen! Thank you!!!

Working with Emotionally Unpredictable Students - Portable 1515
Do you have students that seem like a ticking time bomb? Come to learn how to recognize warning signs and learn strategies to diffuse a situation before it becomes disruptive and to calm students if behavior becomes aggressive or out of control.

SeeSaw Personalized Session - Media Center
Ready to get started with SeeSaw but still have some questions? Come get support and ask your own questions so you and your students can use SeeSaw regularly to show the great evidence of learning!

Welcome to iReady Central - Room #134
Explore i-Ready Central for ideas to motivate your students in the i-Ready platform (reading AND math). If you are a fan of Pintrest, you will love these ideas from teachers all around.  Put kids in charge of monitoring their learning!

Hands-on Exploration of Technology - Media Center
Join us in the Media Center for an hands-on exploration session! Come in to play with the technology tools, toys and devices to see how they could benefit your kids. We'll have out the Osmo bases and manipulatives, Dash robots, Bloxel coding kits, etc.! Looking forward to playing with you!

Student Growth Celebration
Congratulations to ALL our teachers and staff who supported our 4th and 5th grade students last year!!!

In ELA, our 4th grade students went from a 29% median growth percentile in 2017 to a 50% median growth percentile!!!!!!

In ELA, our 5th grade students went from a 40% median growth percentile in 2017 to a 50% median growth percentile!!!!!!

Our student growth percentiles for math went down but I am confident with the implementation of Number Talks, GA Math Frameworks, and intentional assessments to monitor growth, we can increase our percentiles for this school year!!!! Please make sure you are reaching out to Kerstin Long if you have any questions pertaining to Math Workshop implementation or expectations!

Tweeting
Do you Tweet about High Point?  Do you post pictures of your class on Instagram?  If so, please let Lib know so that she can add you to our "Follow Us"  bulletin board!  If you don't, ask Lib (or Hannah) to help you set it up and get started!

High Point has so many wonderful things to brag about and we'd love for you to brag alongside of us!!  Let's tell the world about our awesome-ness!

Communication Regarding Incidents
All Staff - please remember to communicate with parents, whether by email or phone, when a student gets injured at school. If a student is sent to the clinic, Ms. Dickie will call the parent.
With that said, not all injuries warrant a trip to the clinic. We want to avoid having a parent finding out their child was injured, either through their own fault or by someone else, by their child and not from the teacher. Please make sure you are calling or emailing parents of any accident that occurs at school. If you are unsure what to say to the parent, please ask a colleague or Mr. DiBartolo.

Continuous Learning and Reflection
I know there is a lot of discussion around growth mindsets and how important it is for students to have rather than a fixed mindset.
The following article talks about how teaching students "basic knowledge about the brain's potential can have a positive impact on their motivation, grit, and achievement." I found this article very intriguing and even enjoyed the quick 3-minute video about the brain and learning.
