Media Center Updates
How to request a book purchase for the Media Center:
I would love input for all staff members and
students regarding books you would recommend for purchase for the
Media Center. Students will also be able to fill out this form and
request books and I will teach them how to do this soon.
Use this link and submit your requests! http://tinyurl.com/hprequestbook
Book Check-Out Limits
There is no limit to the number of books staff members may check
out- please use our Destiny online Library catalog http://fcsdestiny.fultonschools.org/ and
place items on hold. Your login is your regular FCS login. I
will pull books for you and email you when they are ready- you or a student may
come pick them up. If you need books on a particular subject and do not
have time to browse the catalog, please email me a general subject and I will
pull items for you.
Overdue Books
You will receive an email once a week listing students in
your class who have overdue books. Thank you for your help reminding the
students on your list to return their overdue books. Books have a 2
week limit and may be renewed one time. We do not count
holidays in the two week limit. The Media Center will send home
paper overdue notices quarterly.
Golden Tickets Hall Passes
Thank you for sending students with the Golden Tickets as they
need to visit the media center. One ticket is a pass for one student, so you
may send two at a time and each student will have his/her own ticket. If
you need students to return to your class at a certain time, please send
someone to get them.
Mini METIs:
Each teacher in grades 3, 4, and 5- please give me the name
of your Mini METI and alternate- use this quick survey link to submit the
names. If you emailed the name to me, please enter it into this survey. http://tinyurl.com/minimeti

Copier
Please be mindful that each teacher is allotted 3500 copies per month. This should be plenty of paper for everyone.
Also, we will be getting a new copier in the next few weeks to replace the one in the main hallway!!!! YEAH!!!!! We will keep you updated on it's status!

Packing Slips
If you receive an order, please make sure to turn in your packing slips to Colleen Zeller immediately. This helps us to verify your order and our purchases! Thanks!
Future Raider Night
Riverwood International High School is having their "Future Raider" night on September 16th beginning at 7:30 pm. This is a time when our students can come to the football game, buy a "Future Raider" t-shirt for $5 as well as get in other Riverwood Events for free. It's a great opportunity to support Riverwood, our feeder high school, and let kids get excited about graduating from there!!!

Recess Equipment
Please make sure that students are returning the recess equipment that was donated by our PTO. The recess items are for all classrooms to use and should be returned to the recess bin each day. There should be a lock on the bin to secure it for after school. The code is PLAY. We appreciate your help in making sure our recess equipment stays outside for everyone to use!

TKES
We will be getting started with our observations but we know there is still a lot to review with everyone in terms of which TKES observation level you are on: Full or Flexible. We will be only observing #7 Positive Learning Environment and #3 Instructional Strategies for the first walkthrough.
We will be communicating with all teachers once we have more information about each step and requirement. Thanks for your patience and flexibility!
What I've been thinking about...
I am sure everyone saw the picture posted by a Texas teacher about homework, stating that she wanted her students to "eat dinner as a family, read together, play outside, and get to bed early."
This caused a lot of conversations around the nation regarding homework. I have been thinking about what my beliefs are about homework and what I would do as a classroom teacher.
I am curious. What are your beliefs? Check out the quick article discussing this new homework philosophy. Does it change the way you think about homework?

PBIS This Week
The pieces of the
classroom management puzzle fall into three broad areas:
- Instruction: maximizing the rate of
learning while making independent learners out of helpless hand-raisers
(Use the PAWS UP Matrix)
- Discipline: training students to be
responsible while getting them to stop misbehaving and “work hard”
- Motivation: giving students a reason to work hard while also being conscientious (Paws Up TICKETS/IB Bracelets/Postcards)
The focus this week is BATHROOMS!!!! Who will receive the golden plunger award??!!!!

What I Use in My Classroom
Looking for a new resource to excite and challenge your students
this year? Have you been curious about professional development opportunities
but aren’t sure which are worth your time? While there are many free resources
out there, it can be challenging to navigate the options and feel confident
you’re choosing the best ones. Created by experienced educators in Student
Achievement Partners’ Core Advocate Network, this document contains personal
recommendations for the tools and resources they’ve seen improve student and
teacher performance. The summaries include teachers’ reflections on the
strengths and weaknesses of each tool as well as how they’ve used it
effectively within their own local setting. All resources are free to access
and use and align to college- and career-ready standards. You will find
resources for all content areas, as well as for digital learning.

******VISUALS OF BEST PRACTICE*******
In Ms. Ittig
and Ms. Bryson’s 5th grade classroom students are wondering! The
teachers posted a Wonder Wall in the classroom where the teachers put up a
picture of the Olympic rings. Students were shown video clips from different
opening ceremonies for the Olympics. Students shared their wonderings based on
background knowledge and the video clips. The teachers also put up a
picture of how Pokemon Go has been banned in Iran. The teachers knew that this
was something that the students were connected with and were interested in.
This sparked
conversations and wonderings among this 5th grade classroom!
Ms.
Silverman’s 5th grade reading class took a “field trip” to the
leveled library/content library. They gathered as reading groups to choose an
appropriate “Just Right” chapter book that everyone in the group would enjoy
reading. The students worked together to determine which book they were going
to read. The groups had to persuade why a certain chapter book was the one that
should be chosen. Ms. Silverman facilitated the conversations among the
groups. Two chapter books were chosen by each reading group and everyone left
happy!
