iPads
We will be deploying all the student iPads to classrooms beginning Tuesday!! Mr. Bell and members of Fulton County will be here to help get them in all the classrooms. There are still some iPads being fixed but at least you will be able to have some in your classrooms for students.
Reporting Absences
Please remember to review pages 5-7 in the Staff Handbook if you have questions concerning absences. Below is a review of what to do if you are sick or requesting personal leave. Please note Ms. Alexander's phone number in the event of a last minute absence.
Ms. Pitchford's number is 404-729-0378 in the event of an emergency.
******************
Sick Leave
Upon approval, sick leave may be
used for employee illness, illness of an immediate family member or for medical
related appointments for the employee or of an immediate family member. For
purposes of paid sick leave, the employee’s “immediate family” means the
employee’s parent, sibling, spouse, child, grandparent, or grandchild; the
parent or sibling of the employee’s spouse; or any relative living in the
employee’s household. Pet illnesses/appointments are not recognized as approved
sick leave.
All staff members are required to notify the Assistant Principal by
phone as soon as possible regarding unexpected absences due to illness. Staff
members may contact the Assistant Principal prior to 9:00 pm at (404) 964-2592 the day before the
absence or between 5:30 am and 6:10 am on the day of the absence. When leaving
a message, please make sure you state your reason and that you have entered your
absence in CASE. If you are using text messaging, please make sure you include
your name, reason, and CASE number in the text message. Do not leave a message
on the office phone.
When using sick leave for scheduled medical appointments, staff members
must report the absence in CASE and then Employee Express (ESS) one week prior
to the appointment. The job number issued in CASE should be listed in the
comment section of ESS as verification to the Principal that the absence has
been entered in CASE.
When using sick leave for last-minute absences or scheduled medical
appointments (1-7 days notice), staff members must first notify the Principal
and then report the absence in CASE and Employee Express (ESS). The job
number issued in CASE should be listed in the comment section of ESS as
verification to the principal that the absence has been entered in CASE.
Sick days will be earned for the
190 day employee. These employees earn 12.5 sick days a year; 0.526 hours a
day. First year teachers or any teachers who have used all their sick days
prior to the beginning of school will need to accrue sick leave days before
taking them.
Doctor’s excuses can be requested
by the principal or assistant principal at anytime regarding medical absences
from work.
Personal Leave
Staff members with less than 10
years of continuous service receive 3 personal days per year. Staff members with 10 or more years of
service receive 5 personal days per year. Requests
for personal leave must be entered in CASE and ESS one week in advance for Principal
approval. Enter the CASE # and substitute name in Employee Express (ESS). Failure
to enter the CASE # in Employee Express will result in the request being
denied.
If the employee is unable to give more than a week’s notice to the Principal
for personal leave, the employee needs to contact the Principal directly
regarding the absence prior to entering it in CASE and Employee Express.

SST and Tier III Reminders
SST Reminders
·
Please respond to all invites to SST meetings.
By accepting the meeting, you agree to attend. If you are unsure please
decline, or mark it tentative. It is crucial to know who is coming so that we
meet the requirements for the state.
·
Please assist teammates with dropping off and
picking up from specials so that individuals are on time for meetings.
·
Please bring classroom, intervention, and ACCESS
data to all SSTs
·
The first two weeks were awesome! Let’s keep up
the great work.
Tier 3 Reminders
·
Please make sure the current Tier 3 students are
progress monitored once every week.
·
Interventions for current Tier 3 students must
happen 4 days a week for 30 minutes each day (the 5th day will be
progress monitoring).
·
If you are still confused or having a hard time
getting started, contact Brian Madej immediately.
Attendance Initiative
Being in October we will:
- Pull attendance once a month and give out incentives for students with 4 or less absences. Incentives will be things such as bracelets, pencils, certificates, and book marks.
- Pull attendance once a month and give a party to the homeroom with the least amount of absences that month. It could be a pizza party, ice cream party, or more!
Please remind parents about the importance of their children being at school! Five or more unexcused absences will be reported to the Social Worker and the parents will receive a letter.
If you have a student with an attendance or tardy issues, please let Vaneisa Hutchins or Carrie Pitchford know so that we can address it after you.
Digital Citizenship
Brian Madej has added the Digital Citizenship Family Tip
Sheets and Student Activity Sheets to the Digital Citizenship folder. This
information can be used for parent conferences as well as grade-level
newsletters (Thanks for the idea Lib Roberts!) Please follow this path, or use
the link below:

What I've been thinking about...
This article in Education Weekly reminds me of the importance of supporting our language learners and what their educational experience is like each day.
Do you take time to reflect on who they are and how they can learn best?

******VISUALS OF BEST PRACTICE*******
In Ms. Hayes’ 2nd grade EIP reading class, they
finished their week by going outside! The students reviewed their book by
using a Fiction Comprehension ball. The ball was thrown among the students and wherever their finger landed, that was the question they would
answer about the book. Students were engaged and learning!
*******WRITERS' GALLERY**********
The pledge and writers' gallery will be hosted by Ms. Ittig/Bryson's class this week.
