IOWA Testing
We are starting IOWA testing today for our 3rd and 5th graders. Please be aware that testing will be going on throughout the building; not just on the 3rd and 5th grade hallways. There are approximately 11 small groups and testing will occur throughout the building. We appreciate your help in giving our students the best testing environment possible.
• Hallways will be monitored by Support Personnel and Administration.
• Please refrain from going outside to recess (especially using the 5th grade wing exit doors) until you hear the “Testing has been completed for the day” announcement from Mr. DiBartolo. Testing is occurring in the portables.
• Please be cognizant to limit noise that could be made during transitions (math, lunch, specials) as well as limit the shifting of desks and chairs on the floors.
• Test proctors, please cover any academic content posted in your classroom that is being assessed on each given day.

ESOL Strategies
Fan and Pick
Purpose: To review key concepts and promote interaction
Activity: Teacher makes sets of cards with review questions. Each card has one question. • Students get in groups of four and each group gets a set of cards. • Students number off within each group. 1, 2, 3, 4
1. Number 1 fans the deck of cards. 2. Number 2 picks a card and reads the question aloud. 3. Number 3 answers the question. 4. Number 4 confirms if the answer is correct. If not he/she will help to answer the question. • Students will then switch roles and answer the rest of the questions.

VISUALS OF BEST PRACTICE
Ms. Gilmore's class watched Mystery Doug, Why do Zebras Have Stripes?! It was a great way to provoke student thinking about animal adaptations. They also watched Is there Actually a Pole at the North Pole?, which connected to their inquiry into the Arctic Indians!
