Compliments and Appreciations
 Good morning everyone!
I want to take a minute and revisit one of my comments from our first day together.  I am sure you remember that one of my great sources of data and information comes from my Reader's Digest (large print version).  I mentioned Stephen Covey's book, EVERYDAY GREATNESS and how the people represented in the stories he writes about... ordinary by all definitions...had a particular quality that had "more to do with character and contribution than achievement".

So, as I am thinking about this blog and our first day of school with the children, Covey's book came to mind again.  In our one week together, I saw first hand what "everyday greatness" should look like in a school...and I saw it in YOU!

I am talking about the folks in our building who see something that needs doing, and do it out of a sense of purpose for the good of the order and for the good of children.  Their greatness transcends job titles, job descriptions and personal time commitments.  They help each other; they move furniture; they copy and deliver; they translate on the fly; they call parents, they work weekends and late at night; they put up bulletin boards for others; they share plans and ideas; they give out pats on the back and warm hugs...and words of encouragement.

These are the heroes who show the everyday greatness our little "Kid President " was talking about.  The folks who are invested in making HP the best school possible; the folks who bring their enthusiasm and determination to make a difference to school with them everyday. You know who I am talking about.....in fact, there is a pretty good chance that one those everyday heroes looked back at you in the mirror this morning or is sitting in the room next door.  SOOOOO....

I know this is going to be a fabulous first week of school! How do I know this week will be a great week for our children, you ask?  Because I know what you have done for each other and HP....you will do for them.

With abounding gratitude, I thank you from my heart for all you have done and all you will do!  Let's have the best FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL ever!!!    See you in the halls, Cheryl

Transportation Tags

All students should have a tag on their book bag which signifies how they get home each day. We will be placing sticker labels in each homeroom teacher's box Thursday so that you can place these labels on your students' tags. We are waiting until Thursday since there are still changes to transportation being made.
We really appreciate your help and support with this!!!

Cafeteria Corner

Welcome back seasoned and new High Point teachers and staff.

I would like to share cafeteria information with you.

Start Up for 2016-2017 Reminders

  1. Meal prices did not increase. J  We give out samples, please try our food and let the students see you eating with us.  If you would like to open an account, just email me your name and ID #.  Adult meals are $3.35 and we do sell individual items.
  2. Field Trips:  We need 3 weeks before the actual trip, to guarantee a sack lunch. I order food 2 weeks in advance and receive the week before.  This will guarantee we will have product.  A head count will be needed.
  3. Transporting field trip meals.  We have chest for sack lunch and milk.  The student who will be receiving a field trip meal have to come through the cashier line and put their number before leaving.
  4. Our form delinquent letters will be put into your mailboxes on Wednesday afternoon to be sent home with students on Thursday.Thank You!
  5. Elementary schools are the only Fulton County schools that allow a student to charge up to 3 meals, before the student must receive a courtesy meal.  A courtesy breakfast/lunch consist of cheese sandwich and milk.
  6. Each student will receive a reminder note from the cashiers each day when their account is low of money or needs money.
  7. Teachers who have students that will be receiving courtesy meals the next day, will receive an email listing the students names and amount owed the cafeteria.  You need to make sure the student is told not to go through the line, but come see Mrs. Uhlar.  I will take care of them in the back of the house.  Now, unless they have money to pay the monies owed and money to eat that day.
  8. Student ID’s will be printed, when all students are in the computer.  Please have students bring their ID’s when coming for lunch, especially the  young students whom do not know their numbers.  This is a must during the first month of school.  Students in 3rd, 4th and 5th grade should know their numbers.  The ID number they have today will follow them into High School, if they stay in Fulton County.  This will help the transition run quickly and smoother in the serving, cashier line.
  9. Offer Vs. Serve!  All students of any age must be allow to pick what entrée, fruit, vegetable and milk they want each day.  A student must have a fruit OR vegetable on their plate per lunch meal.  If you want to know exactly what is classified as a reimbursable meal, please email me.  Federal government pays a percentage of every students meals and require a complete reimbursable meal be chosen.
This is why we will ask them to return and pick up another item, or charge them for extra items.
  10. If you are having a party or event in your classroom and need forks, spoons, etc., please bring from home.  I am supposed to charge you for these items.

1. New students who are not in our system must bring breakfast or lunch money each day to pay for their meals.  We cannot hold cash for a student.  Once they are in the system they can bring check or cash only to our cashiers.  Please ask parents of young children to put payments in a sealed envelope with cafeteria on the front.  Young children lose cash!  We do have a company, parents can apply money to their students accounts online at www.Mypaymentsplus.com.  They will need their students ID number to open an account.  This company charges 4.9% for each transaction and excepts credit cards only.  The transaction does not happen immediately like they expect, they should not wait till the day of.
  1. Please no parking around or near the dumpsters/recycle bins.  If you haven’t notice there is a sign asking no parking beyond that area.

If waste management comes and there is a car, they leave.  This means no pick up!  Cafeteria receives deliveries all week and this hinders their time frames for other deliveries. When walking your class or students in their area, watch out for incoming trucks.

  1.  If you wish to have ice for your personal cups, we have an ice chest for your service.  Nutrition staff only in kitchen.
  2. Thank you for all you do!  We appreciate you and hope to see and meet all staff.  Our staff members are myself, Lola, Cassandra, Patty, Alicia and new member Sallie.  If you would like to ask me any questions or need to clarify all this information, feel free to email me.
  3. Look for order forms and flyers in your mailboxes.  Convenient options for classroom celebration.   Ms. Uhlar, Cafeteria Manager
