Congratulations!
Congratulations to "Granny" for winning our school's Volunteer of the Year Award! Ms. Bridges will be recognized at the Fulton County Volunteer of the Year Luncheon on Friday, May 9th. If you see her in the building, please tell her congratulations and take a moment to thank her for all of her hard work to make High Point better each day!

PBIS This Week!
Thank you for continuing to hand out tickets to our students who are exhibiting PAWS behavior!!

A reminder that when you are turning in an office referral, please bring the child/ren to the office with the referral (and 5 incident reflection sheets if appropriate). Staff members will go to Ms. Alexander first but if she is not able you will go to the following people:  B) Pitchford, C) Reed, D) Hess, and then Ms. Salmons. We will be completing a lot of formative observations but we want to make sure that if you have an office referral, it is handled immediately. Thanks!!!

2014-2015 Supplies
In order to use our monies now, we are asking teachers to complete their supply order for next year. Each teacher will be given $100 to stock up on supplies for next year (i.e, scissors, paper, glue, pencils, markers, etc..). All orders must be completed online using Office Max. You don't have to spend all of your money if you don't need it. $100 is the max.

If you are not returning to High Point next year, please go ahead and complete an order for the teacher who will be taking over your classroom. Grade chairs, please make sure that if we are adding a class, you are creating that start-up order.
The numbers at each grade level for next year are projected to be:
  • K = 7
  • 1st = 6
  • 2nd = 6
  • 3rd = 7
  • 4th = 5
  • 5th = 5
  • ESOL = 6
  • SPED = 5
  • EIP = 2 + 2 part time
  • Special Area = Same as 2013
**********************************************************
Evacuation Drill
We will be having our last evacuation drill soon. Because of the time crunch, we will only go to the very top of the parking lot for our evacuation drill. We will NOT be walking to GHA. Please make sure you remember our procedures:
  • Code Blue will be announced. No alarm will sound.
  • Walk your class safely out of the building.
  • Bring your safety bag, with colored cards, and your class list.
  • Find your cone with your grade level listed.

What I've Been Thinking About…
I've been thinking about the different apps we use with our students and how apps can make a difference in teaching and in learning. The following blog talks about just three apps that "deserve a little more love."

Technology Tips for the Week!

iPad Tips for Teachers

How to use multi-touch gestures
Go to Settings > General and turn Multitasking Gestures on. If you swipe left or right with four fingers you’ll be able to switch from your current app to other recently used apps. You can also swipe up from the bottom of the screen with four fingers to open the Multitasking tray, and swipe down again with four fingers to close it. If you pinch with four fingers then you’ll close the app you’re in (it’s basically like tapping the Home button).

How to get the iPad manual
If you’re disappointed that the iPad didn’t have a manual then head over to Apple and download it. You’ll also find it’s available as a free download in the iBooks app.

****VISUALS OF BEST PRACTICES****
Ms. Ellis’ 2nd graders are studying about Life Cycles.  She has created a 1st hand experience for her class. She has tadpoles, a Praying Mantis egg sac, and is planting Lima beans. The students come in everyday excited and asking questions.  They can’t wait to see all the changes that are happening. Ms. Ellis is integrating their study of Life Cycles into her reading and writing blocks.  If students are not doing hands-on science, they are not doing science. Science is a process and if students are not actively engaged in the process, they are not doing science.
