Testing will take place from 8:00 until an announcement is made each day, which will typically take place after 11:30. Please refrain from going outside until the announcement is made so that we can give our students the quietest testing environment possible.

Snacks will be provided by PTA for students in grades 3, 4, and 5.
An "end of testing" popsicle party will also be hosted by PTA for all students after testing next week. More details to come...

Let's have our focus be on hallway behavior again since it's CRCT week. Please remind students the rules of the hallway such as having a straight line, stopping to wait on their teacher, no talking, and using their manners.

TKES
Formative Observations will begin this week and will go until the last day of school. These observations will not be announced and they will be split between Pitchford and Alexander.
As for artifacts for the second Formative Assessment, there is no need to submit the same artifacts again. For the standards that are not observable, you can send your evaluator anything new that was not submitted in the first Formative Evaluation. The more information we have, the better.
The Formative Assessment will be shared with you within 5 working days. Please let us know if you would like to meet concerning your assessment. Post-conferences are optional.
Summative Evaluations will be completed and shared immediately following your second Formative Assessment. A sign-up sheet for end-of-the-year conferences will be placed on our door. During this time, we will discuss your evaluations and if appropriate, your goals for next year.

Culminating Projects
Ms. Churchwell teamed up with
her intern Ms. Coleman to generate a culminating animal project that their 1st
graders are bound to remember! Each first grader researched facts about a
specific animal, created a concept map, and produced a model habitat to display
their evidence of learning. The project provided both teachers an opportunity
to assess several science, reading, and writing concepts with one project. This
is the best time of year to tap into creative tactics that keep the students
engaged and a culminating project is a great strategy to implement. Way to go
1st grade!

Update
Thank you to everyone for your care and concern regarding Katie Marchioli and her mother. While her mother is slowing improving, she is still in the ICU. Therefore, Katie will be on long term medical leave for the remainder of the school year. She is keeping us updated on her mother's progress and she appreciates all of the love and support she's received.

****VISUALS OF BEST PRACTICES****
In Ms. Newman’s 3rd grade advanced reading group, the
students researched poverty and made PowerPoints to explain their project of
raising money to purchase a goat. Their PowerPoints explained why they were
doing this, what Heifer international was, etc.. They shared these PowerPoints
with 4th and 5th grade classes to ask for their help to
raise money for the goat to feed these people. The students raised $450
which is more than what they needed($120) so they all came back to the “drawing
board” to decide what to do with the extra money.
**Project based learning helps students develop skills for
living in a knowledge based, highly technological society and accommodates
students with varying learning styles and differences. **
