Congratulations to Our Oratorical Competitors
Eleven fourth and fifth grade students participated in our Annual Oratorical Competition this past Friday! The speeches were powerful, insightful and creative. A HUGE thank you goes out to Ms. Simon, who spearheaded the event. This could not have happened without her hard work and support! We also appreciate the staff who supported her and the students: Ms. Silverman, Ms. Gadson, and Ms. Bass as well as Ms. Roberts, Ms. Hess and Ms. Dennis.
Congratulations to Kendall Hudson and Ryan Price who are this year's first place winners! Please congratulate them when you see them! The district level competition will be held on March 9th at 7:00 pm. We wish them the best of luck!!!!

Think First Stay Safe
I will be teaching the Think First Stay Safe personal safety lessons starting next week during our next guidance rotation (over the next 4 weeks). Please read the following important details:
Please keep any letters that are signed and returned. These students will not be able to participate in the lesson and will need to go to the media center during this time. Please be prepared when I come by already identifying and sending these students. The letters are due back by March 10th.
During the lesson, teachers must remain in the room. We are required to have two adults in the room at all times.
All students are required to have the lesson, so please make sure that any pull out students are kept in the room or come back into the room.
If you have a sub on the day, we are scheduled, we will need to reschedule for a day that you are here.
Please refer any students that bring up concerns or say anything questionable after the lesson to me immediately.
Thank you - Rachel Wooden

Georgia Milestones System-Technology Check
On Thursday, March 9th at 10 am, the county will be conducting a system-wide technology check to ensure that the infrastructure and devices are ready for Georgia Milestones testing. Due to the play and Market Day, third grade will schedule the online practice test for a different day and time. Fourth and fifth grade will conduct the test in their classrooms. The computer lab will also be used. It should take approximately 20 minutes.
************************************
Training Session for the System-Technology Check
A system-technology check training session for third, fourth and fifth grade teachers will be held on Tuesday, March 7th at 2:50 in the computer lab. This training will also provide test administrators with a preview of how to administer the Georgia Milestones online. ESOL, EIP and Special Education teachers are also expected to attend.

Collecting Laptops for Georgia Milestones
In order to prepare for 100% online administration of Georgia Milestones, the admin team will begin to collect laptops from 1st-5th grade classes. We are collecting the newer laptops, mice, and cords. Ipads and the older laptops will remain in the classroom. Bins will be provided to teachers to house the materials (laptops, mice, cords) for pick-up. We are providing you with the information now in order for you to plan accordingly. The approximate date for redistribution will be Thursday, April 27th. More information is forthcoming.
Devices will be collected on the following dates:
March 29th - 4th and 5th grade
March 30th- 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade
************************************
DEVICES IN CLASSROOMS
Please remember that all devices (iPads, new laptops, old laptops, and desktops) must be turned off at the end of the day and turned on each morning. This must be done each day so that devices update properly. STAR and Milestones testing is coming soon, and we need all devices updated and running smoothly. Thanks!
