Recruit Career Day Speakers!!
High Point will host our third annual career day on Friday, March 4th. We are seeking parent and community volunteers to share information about their careers with High Point students on this afternoon. Volunteers will speak with 2-3 classrooms for 20 minutes each.

Please reach out to friends and family members as well as High Point parents to encourage them to sign up. We need a wide variety of speakers, and there is no job too boring for this event! I can help speakers figure out a way to make their career interesting and child friendly. We are also able to skype in speakers for any out of towners.

Please have speakers visit the following link to sign up:

I will also be putting some career day sign up cards in your box that you can keep with you and hand out to people that may be interested when you are out and about.

You all made last year’s event a huge success!! I can’t wait to see how many speakers we can get this year!!!!!

Parent Informational Session for GA Milestones
The administrative team will be holding a parent informational session tomorrow from 5:00-6:00 pm in the media center. This session is to help parents of 4th and 5th grade students know how to read the individualized student reports as well have a better understanding of how this standardized assessment differs from the CRCT.
This session has been advertised in the newsletters, Principal's Blog, etc... so they should know about it.
Thanks!

PTA Snack Closet
The PTA has gotten different snacks donated to our school. We will keep some of them in the front office closet and will keep the remaining snacks in the PTA closet. The snacks are items such as animal crackers, bars, etc...
If you have a child that needs a snack, please let the office know. This is not on an everyday basis.

RTI Updates
As you know, we will begin STAR Screening this week, and this will give us a chance to check in on our school’s academic progress. This new data will provide an opportunity for us to change gears with our intervention groups if needed. We will talk more once the testing window closes on February 9th, until then, please consider the following thoughts:
  • February 29th will be the cutoff for students moving up to Tier 3 (unless they are new to our school after that point), so please meet with Brian before this date if you feel your student needs to move to Tier 3
  • Once the STAR Screening window closes, the flags in EASY will change, and we will need to update them again. Please do not worry about this now, we will complete this task in late February and March. Do not do this ahead of time since your work may be lost!! Please wait for my go-ahead.
  • Please make sure your math and reading classes in TAC are correct for STAR Screening. Please complete a pink roster change request with Ms. Fears to correct errors.
  • I have met with many of you to chat about your RTI students and it is always helpful to have your data ready to go. I often ask about F&P, Access Levels, Grades, and other data points to make decisions. I hate to take up your time, so having this information ready with save you time. Thanks!

Let’s Talk Toilets!

Seriously folks! This month let’s review the Paws Up procedures for using the restroom. We encourage you to take time in your lesson plans to walk students to the restroom and discuss cleanliness, responsibility, and respect. A few of the grade levels have noticed tissue not being flushed or being placed in the toilets. A few other things to mention is keeping soap and water in the sinks. The hallway with the cleanest bathrooms will win the Golden Plunger Award which will be mentioned on the Monday morning news. Mr. Derrick and Mr. Harry will also be rewarding students on that hallway with tickets. Let’s keep things clean!

******VISUALS OF BEST PRACTICE*******

In Ms. Nobles’ 5th grade class, students are wondering “Where In The World It Is.” Ms. Nobles puts a picture up from the Junior Scholastic magazine and students make inquiries about the picture. They read through the clues that are given as a group and they “observe” the picture. The students put “I Wonder” statements up. It is then left open to take the clues and research “Where in the world it is.” Students are given choice how they want to present the information. Many of the students choose to stay in for lunch to research with their group or on their own or with a partner.  It’s all about choice and giving the students an opportunity to ask questions!
